:: MUSIC SEQUENCERS::Time to review two good music production sequencers, FL Studio and Vocaloid. FL Studio 5![]() FL Studio is maybe the most widely used virtual studio software. It contains a pattern arranger, a piano roll, a mixer and support for VST instruments and effects. You can use it as a pattern sequencer or a piano roll sequencer, and you can generate the sound by using both samples or synthesis. I use it as a piano roll sequencer, since this kind of sequencers were the first ones that I used and learned. ![]() This program comes with some nice instruments and many sound effects for immediate use. This program is quite easy of use and is very stable. It allows the user to export his work directly into audio files, WAV or MP3, and midi files. This program is a virtual studio, so it is designed for being capable of the complete creation of a musical theme, from conception to masterization. The major drawback that I see is that it is focused only for 4/4 beat music, so if you want to create more special kinds of music, like 3/4 beat music - also called waltz music -, or you need to print the music score, you will need a more dedicated sequencer. I would recommend then Magix Music Studio, since it is fairly cheap and easy for beginners, having also VST support and its own audio editor. VocaloidVocaloid is a new kind of sequencer, and at the same time, a new kindof instrument. It is a virtual singer, and one that is able to synthetize lyrics. As in a normal sequencer, we will write the melodic composition in a piano roll, and then we can type the lyrics to be sung. Also it features many options for singing dynamics, that will make the voice much more natural. And different singers can be created, because the program allows the user to modify many voice parameters. ![]() |
